A Story of Hope
Three words.
In three words, everything you thought would be is in the rearview mirror. “You have cancer” stops your world. Your hopes, dreams, and plans—even how you define yourself—are altered in just seconds. You’re jolted from life before cancer to a new cancer world. A permanent shadow that follows everything you do, everyone you love, and everywhere you go.
But then you discover something wonderfully transformative as you start to understand and cope with your diagnosis. You realize what truly matters. And that is you.
I had always put others first. Cancer changed that. It teaches you to accept people’s help, to spoil yourself (spa treatments and fancy PJs do wonders), to seek support, and to put your physical, mental, and emotional health first. Always. Before everything and everyone. You learn to fiercely prioritize you.
I think of it this way: Once you get beyond the anger and grief of “Why me?” you begin to declare “Why not me?!” with an iron-like strength.
Most of all, please know you are not alone. Ever. You are a beautiful, determined survivor who has been given an extraordinary lesson: Don’t postpone joy.
